Kibbe & Weight: an analysis

Does weight gain or loss change your Kibbe image ID?

You might have heard that your Kibbe image ID does not depend on your weight.

How??

When I first learned about Kibbe’s image ID system, this was the first question that came to my mind too.

Remember that this is not a body typing system, but rather an image ID system.

Unlike the traditional fruit body typing system that reduces your body to a shape of a fruit (apple, pear, etc), the goal of Kibbe’s image ID system is to try to find your best style lines – not your body type.

Kibbe’s system uses bone structure, flesh, and whether or not your body is visually made of long vertical lines as some of the factors in determining your image ID. The factors that go into determining your Kibbe image ID like bone structure and vertical lines don’t change with weight gain/loss.

In order to understand how this works, let’s look at Adele – who recently went through significant weight loss – as an example of how Kibbe image IDs don’t change.

Adele is a soft dramatic – she needs to accommodate for vertical and curve. Accommodating for vertical means keeping long lines in your silhouette and accommodating for curve means keeping fabrics light and close to your body as well as emphasizing your waist to create rounded shapes.

We know she’s 5’11” so she is automatically limited to flamboyant natural, soft dramatic, and dramatic. Even before her weight loss, we can see she doesn’t have the characteristic width in her upper body, it’s quite narrow and sharp. That takes out any possibility of being a flamboyant natural.

It’s also evident if you look at her in FN lines.

It looks frumpy, like she’s being swallowed by fabric.

Now that we’re left with soft dramatic and dramatic, we can look at her clothing lines to figure it out.

This is a style that looks very cohesive on dramatics. It’s very close to her silhouette, sleek, and angular (aside from the neckline).

This outfit is more in line with soft dramatic style lines. It’s rounded, soft, bold, and emphasizes her waist.

Which one looks better?

It doesn’t matter what weight Adele is, angularity is not her best look as a soft dramatic.

Like this,

this,

and this.

She has always looked her best in soft dramatic style lines – bold, draped styles with waist emphasis.

Before her weight loss,

and after.
