Small changes for a big visual difference

Sometimes, the smallest changes in an outfit make the biggest difference.

The next 2 pictures were taken last week while I was trying on outfits for a concert (ignore the dirty mirror).

Both shirts are black, but the first one makes me look visibly slimmer than the second.

These two pictures made me realize how small changes can make a big difference visually.

This shirt has a deep V neckline, as well as an angular upside down V hemline.

As a result, both the neckline and hemline draws your eyes towards the center of my torso, coming together at one point.

This shirt, unlike the first one, has a - for lack of a better description - upside down sweetheart neckline.

Also unlike the last shirt, it has a straight edge across my torso, drawing your eyes sideways visually.

The hemline is also rounded, and unlike a V neck, a round neck draws your eyes horizontally towards your shoulders rather than towards the center of your torso.

Drawing your eyes towards your shoulders, as well as horizontally on your torso can create the illusion of looking slightly wider.

Conversely, drawing your eyes towards a focal point in the center of your torso, can create the illusion of looking slightly slimmer.

A visual depiction of where your eyes follow using lines.
