Do you have Kibbe Width?

Having wide shoulders does not mean you automatically have Kibbe width - and Zendaya and Jennifer Lawrence can help explain why.

I don’t know a lot of people who’s shoulders or upper back are actually smaller than the rest of the body - and by that definition, almost everyone would be a natural.

But they’re not - and its because Kibbe’s Image ID system is all about proportions throughout the whole body

Zendaya - at first glance - seems like she has wide shoulders. But she is widely assumed to be a dramatic body type - which is characterized as vertical without width.

Take Jamie Lee Curtis. She also looks like she has wide shoulders. But - she is also a verified Dramatic.

Wide shoulders CAN be a part of width, but its not the full picture.

Width is more about the entire upper back area - in relation to the torso.

As a very extreme example, I think of very high level swimmers when I think about width.

Think about width in relation to the bottom of your armpit vs where your seam would meet your sleeve.

Does it go straight up, or does it form a funnel shape? Also, is your frame in your upper body generally wider because of a stronger frame and containing your bust, or is it narrow and your bust defines your upper body? Like, is the bottom of your armpit the widest part of your body, or your bust?

(I drew the funnel shape on Jennifer Lawrence’s frame as an example)

To have width, your shoulders AND your ribcage has to be wide compared to the rest of your silhouette.

This is a picture I found on reddit which I think really shows the funnel V shape that is width vs no width. The top row are all verified soft naturals, and the bottom row are all verified romantics.

The top row shows a very clear funnel or V shape in their upper back whereas the bottom row is a lot straighter.

In the case of Jamie Lee Curtis and Zendaya, not only are they really tall, which sort of stretches them out and therefore creates long, sleek lines in their body - a Dramatic characteristic, but if you look at the rest of their body - especially the ribs - I don’t see width in relation to the rest of their silhouette.

Therefore, neither have width and neither are naturals.

I hope that helps!
