Short Vertical Line

How do you know if you have a short or long vertical line?

Partially it has to do with height, but it’s a bit more than that, and I’ll explain using Mila Kunis and Scarlett Johansson.

Theatrical Romantics could look taller than they are, but they’re still short (5’ 5” and below). They’re also delicate. But delicate in Kibbe talk is a bit different. You’ll see it described as “short boned” but I hate that description bc it’s so ambiguous. Short boned means the length of their arms/legs will be shorter overall.

As an example, take a look at Mila Kunis (TR) vs Scarlett Johansson (SN). Mila is 5’4”, and Scarlett is 5’3”

Even though Scarlett is actually 1 inch shorter, her arms and legs and overall bone structure looks longer than Mila Kunis. She also has width, which cancels out the need for any “petite accommodation”

Mila Kunis’s arms/legs in proportion to her height look very small overall.

If you’re extremely thin, you can appear taller than you are, but that doesn’t mean your frame is made of long lines/long bones overall.

That’s what a short vertical line is, essentially. It is the lack of long lines/long bones in your frame.

And according to Kibbe, being small/short boned without width requires accommodation- what he called petite accommodation which essentially means keeping fabrics light and close to your body so you’re not drowned out by your clothes.
